Anodizing basics for aluminum machined components

Manufacturing notes

Type II decorative anodize and Type III hardcoat serve different purposes: appearance and light corrosion resistance vs wear resistance. Thickness targets affect dimensional tolerance on threads and press fits.

Masking for selective anodize must be planned before cutting—features like grounding pads often need bare aluminum islands with crisp edges.

Color can vary batch-to-batch; if cosmetics matter, set realistic sample approval expectations and note viewing/lighting standards if needed.

Discuss rack marks and drain holes with your finisher so cosmetic faces are oriented consistently in the bath.
